Across 8 episodes the series travels to new, previously unseen locations to explore stunning landscapes and tell extraordinary stories that are dramatic, thrilling, sometimes funny, sometimes heart-breaking, but always full of hope.

Each episode showcases new behaviour, pristine environments, and the remarkable strategies that animals have developed to survive. The natural world has changed more over the past few decades than ever before, and this change has been felt right across every ecosystem and by the countless creatures that we share this planet with.

We’ve now reached a critical point in our planet’s history and this Planet Earth III features stories and animal characters which reflect the new challenges that wildlife faces in our modern, crowded world. Whilst still retaining the awe, beauty, and warm accessible tone of its predecessors, the series brings a new, important insight into our increasingly fragile natural world by revealing the deep interconnectivity of all life on Earth.

The final episode will feature the efforts to protect and preserve the wildlife and the critically important ecosystems of Planet Earth.

On the day of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, this unmissable event honours one of the most influential figures in broadcasting and natural history storytelling.

Broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall in London, this 90-minute special celebrates Sir David’s groundbreaking career, taking audiences on an extraordinary journey through a century of exploration and discovery in the natural world, seen through the prism of Sir David’s remarkable life and work.

The programme combines some of the most memorable wildlife moments from the BBC’s natural history archive with live music drawn from Sir David’s most iconic television series, alongside reflections from public figures and leading voices in conservation and wildlife film-making.

Accompanied throughout by the BBC Concert Orchestra, the programme features iconic music associated with some of television’s most unforgettable sequences from landmark series including Planet Earth, Blue Planet and Frozen Planet. And we hear from those who have worked with and been inspired by Sir David over the years.

Making life on earth: ATTENBOROUGH’S GREATEST ADVENTURE

In 1976, David Attenborough embarked on his most ambitious project ever, Life on Earth. No-one had ever attempted a natural history series on this scale before, and David’s reputation was on the line.

This is the remarkable story behind the BBC’s most famous wildlife blockbuster: a three-year, hair-raising odyssey around the world, travelling to 40 countries and filming over 600 species, including the famous mountain gorillas. First broadcast in 1979 and watched by 500 million people, it launched David Attenborough’s career as the most successful and influential wildlife film-maker of our time.

Tiger Island

In the forests of western Nepal, a team of cinematographers, wildlife guides, and a big cat scientist are on a mission to document the lives of tigers in more detail than ever before. Their destination is a small island in the middle of a river system – home to one of the world’s highest densities of tigers. The big cats here are accustomed to seeing people in their territory, and as a result the filming team can get on the ground and up close as they document the tigers’ lives by day and by night. The result is an intimate portrait of several tiger families, including discoveries about tiger behaviour that were previously unknown.
